Brit Tzedek v'ShalomJewish Alliance for Justice and PeaceWhere We StandBrit Tzedek Mourns the Loss of Life in Beer Sheva
September 1, 2004 Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, offers our sincere condolences to the families of victims of the terror bombings in Beer Sheva, Israel. Brit Tzedek condemns all such acts of violence against civilian targets. Such acts are also attacks on moderates on both sides of the conflict, and on efforts to renew meaningful peace negotiations. We call upon the Palestine Authority and Palestinian activists to condemn this act and to take concrete actions to isolate extremists and to prevent terrorism. As the government of Israel weighs its response to these attacks, we call for maximum restraint, as well as a commitment to refrain from harm to civilians and the abuse of fundamental human rights. Brit Tzedek v'Shalom believes that the only long-term answer to the cycle of Israeli-Palestinian violence is peace negotiations that lead to an end of the occupation and to a viable two-state solution. This tragic terror attack demonstrates the urgency of vigorous and consistent U.S. involvement in the promotion and facilitation of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. |
