Letter Urges Bush to Appoint Envoy
November 18, 2004
An envoy should be appointed to focus on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, a group of U.S. Jews wrote to President Bush. "We believe that Israeli and Palestinian leaders can be brought back to the negotiating table through your committed and persistent leadership in support of a negotiated two-state solution," says the letter, signed by more than 8,000 Jews. Among the signatories are Rabbi Arthur Hertzberg, feminists Gloria Steinem and Letty Cottin Pogrebin, and Theodore Mann, a former president of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations. The letter will be delivered this week.
