Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace

Letter to the Editor: From Fringe to Mainstream

The Jerusalem Report

January 21, 2008

By Steve Masters

We were very pleased to see your coverage of our presence at the Annapolis conference "Fringe Theater at Annapolis," (Dec. 24). The organizations that came out that day in support of a return to substantive peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians represent the 87% of American Jews who say they support a two-state solution to the conflict. What was once fringe has become more mainstream than virtually any other opinion on the American political scene.

I am grateful that among those with whom Brit Tzedek waved placards that day, were people wholly dedicated to finding a just and peaceful solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike. As a lifelong passionate advocate for Israel, I am very proud to be identified with them. Along with the other members of Brit Tzedek, I am pro-peace, expressly because I am pro-Israel.
