Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace

Newtonites join steering committee of Jewish peace group

Newton Tab

October 2, 2007

Deborah Fogel and Ilana Lescohier of Newton have joined the Steering Committee of the Boston Chapter of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, as Synagogue Outreach co-chairwoman and secretary, respectively.

Both have Israeli connections: Fogel, a writer and editor, spent time volunteering and working in Israel in the 1970s. She is an active member of the Newton Centre Minyan. Lescohier was born in Israel on Kibbutz Mishmar Hasharon before moving to Moshav Kfar-Vitkin. She subsequently worked at the Hebrew University and was sent to London for further studies at the London School of Economics. She has a doctor of philosophy
degree in Social Welfare Policy from the Heller School at Brandeis University and is retired from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Brit Tzedek is a grassroots organization with more than 3,000 local supporters and more than 36,000 nation-wide dedicated to educating and mobilizing American Jews in support of a negotiated two-state resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict with a secure Israel living in peace, side-by-side with a politically and economically viable Palestinian state.
