Iran's Leader not Helping

Austin American-Statesman

December 19, 2005
By David Albert

Re: Dec. 15 article, "Holocaust is myth, Iran’s leader says in new tirade":

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has given support to extremists on all sides who believe that the only solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is for one side to annihilate the other. His hateful words are an insult to the memory of the 11 million people, including six million Jews, who were exterminated during the Holocaust.

Ahmadinejad represents neither the best interests nor the popular sentiment of the Palestinians, the majority of whom recognize that the viability of a future Palestinian state depends on its ability to co-exist alongside Israel. We, at Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, renew our call for vigorous U.S. engagement. We believe that a negotiated two-state solution between Israelis and Palestinians remains the only road to a secure and lasting Middle East peace.
