PA Mulling Adoption of Geneva Accords

If Abu Mazen is elected. According to report in London-based Arab daily “al-Quds al-Arabi”, officials view accords as part of Road Map plan.
The Palestinian Authority is mulling whether to adopt the Geneva Accords following the January 9 elections, Palestinian sources told the London-based Arab daily "al-Quds al-Arabi".
The report stated that the PA might endorse the plan if PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) is elected.
According to the report, the PA believes in the adoption of the accords as part of the Road Map plan. The Geneva Accords were formulated mainly by Yahad Chairman Yossi Beilin and senior Palestinian lawmaker Yasser Abed Rabo.
The newspaper also reported that upon the recent first anniversary of the accords, efforts have been made in Ramallah and Switzerland to promote the plan. The Swiss have even established an international network consisting of 33 countries, which is slated to meet in Geneva in March 2005.
“The plan must be seriously taken into account since it is viewed as a real chance to reach peace, because it deals with the core issues of the conflict, like the status of Jerusalem and the return of Palestinian refugees”, Swiss sources told the paper.
Meanwhile, well-informed Palestinian official sources said that PLO Chairman Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) would head on Wednesday for talks with Syrian President Bashar Assad and leaders of opposition groups that have their offices in Damascus.
A senior Hamas official said Sunday that Abbas would also meet the head of the Hamas politburo Khaled Mesh'al.
“The talks between Abu Mazen and Mesh'al are to focus on the issues of dialogue and political partnership and collective leadership, and the PLO as a collective formula that includes all the Palestinians," Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zahri said.
