These actions are illegal and immoral, and are a direct result of the ongoing occupation which is corrupting all of Israeli society." In October 2003, Yonatan Shapira was one of 27 pilots who signed the "Pilots' Letter." He will discuss his courageous decision to refuse, and explain how the occupation is hurting Israel's security and democracy. Yonatan Shapira has been a helicopter pilot for more than 10 years, flying more than 100 rescue and assault missions. He has received special training in the US for the IDF's Black Hawk Squadron. As a reservist, he served as a pilot, operations leader and instructor. As a refuser, he joins more than 1300 other Israeli soldiers refusing to serve the occupation. He provides a voice of hope that a small, brave group can make principled choices and open new paths to peace. [click here for Shapira's bio] July 8, 2004--WASHINGTON, D.C.
