Brit Tzedek v’ShalomJewish Alliance for Justice and Peace
The Daily Gazette September 2006 The Times Union has been bringing us daily news of the worst crisis in years in the Near East. The Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, a pro-Israeli group of American Jews, agrees with Secretary of State Rice that negotiations leading to Israel and Palestine living peacefully together is the key to stability in the region. How to get there from the current crisis? Some say the US must let the Israeli military weaken or destroy Hamas and Hezbollah before there can be real progress. Our view is that it is impossible to weaken or destroy Hamas and Hezbollah without unacceptable destruction of Israeli, Palestinian, and Lebanese societies. And the longer the violence continues, the harder it will be to pick up the pieces. Therefore we urge the Administration to work toward an immediate cease fire and diplomatic resolution of the conflicts. Jack Alexander |
