Brit Tzedek v'ShalomJewish Alliance for Justice and PeaceStaff:
ALIZA BECKER, Deputy Director, has 25 years advocacy, educational and non-profit management experience. In the 1980s-90s, she worked in the field of advocacy and education for immigrants and refugees. She managed large-scale education programs at Heartland Alliance for Human Needs and Human Rights, in Chicago. She published extensively on these topics, including the bestselling book Citizenship Now: A Guide for Naturalization (Contemporary Books, 1995), which sold over 60,000 copies. In July 2002, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights honored Aliza with an award for her long-time commitment to immigrant and refugee rights. Aliza comes from a long family line of activists in the Labor Zionist movement hailing back to the early 1900s, and many of them live in Israel. From 1988 to 1992, she participated in a Jewish-Palestinian dialogue group in Chicago. Concern for the welfare of her large Israeli family led her to found the Chicago-based Jewish Peace Forum in the fall of 2000. She also is a founding member of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom. She has a Masters Degree in Linguistics from the University of Illinois. [top]
