Four rabbis and two cantors from the Atlanta metro-area are joining nearly 700 others from across the country to seize on this traditional time for communal evaluation and reflection in calling on the next president to make vigilant U.S. leadership in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict a top priority of his administration, reversing eight years of diplomatic neglect. Jan Jaben-Eilon
Atlanta’s Limmud offered the Jewish community an assortment of speakers and presenters, most of who were from our own community. But not all.
Thanks to Brit Tzedek v’Shalom, the Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace, two speakers came all the way from Jerusalem to share their insights into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. [Read More]

Letter to the Editor: Gift of Peace
Jan Jaben-Eilon
I just returned from Israel, where I had an opportunity to get a sense of the feeling on the ground about the "peace process" and President Bush's trip to Jerusalem. I was surprised by the incredible hopelessness and helplessness felt by many Israelis. Although they didn't seem to place much weight on Bush's visit, they hold onto a tiny thread of hope that only the United States can make the Israelis and Palestinians reach the negotiated two-state solution sought by the majority on both sides. Ex-Israeli soldier urges dialogue instead of fighting
Moni Basu
Elik Elhanan drove with fear into the heart of the Palestinian territories. The former Israeli soldier had never seen a Palestinian except down the barrel of a gun. Now he was about to meet face-to-face with former "terrorists" in an area that was off-limits to Israelis. Palestinian suicide bombers killed Elhanan's sister Smadar in downtown Jerusalem in 1997. She was 14. Innocent. Her life was brutally ended because she was Jewish. Read More

Chazan: Don't Miss Opening for Peace, Former Israeli Lawmaker Cites Rare Opportunity
Three major changes have created a small window of opportunity for peace in the Middle East, former Knesset member Naomi Chazan said last week at Emory Law School, calling the events an "unbelievably unusual convergence of circumstances" that cannot be ignored.

Listen to Arab Americans
Last November, I attended the Brit Tzedek v'Shalom (Jewish Alliance for Justice and Peace) conference, in Boston. The pro Israel organization advocates a negotiated settlement to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. There were many Jewish participants, including rabbis, Israeli politicians and military leaders. However, the speaker who made the strongest impact on my personal vision of a two state solution was James Zogby, Arab American Institute president.
