Straddling the Fence, produced by Thomas L. Friedman, chronicles his travel to Israel for a look at the causes and potential consequences of the security wall under construction - a barrier between Israel and Palestine. Following the movie there will be a dialogue led by Guest Moderator Bob Gluck who has served as Executive Director of the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association, as the first Director of Outreach for the Jewish Reconstructionist Federation, and as a pulpit rabbi.

Please join us for a showing of Land of the Settlers, Directed by Chaim Yavin. In the movie Yavin reveals his own complicated and conflicted perspective of the occupation and the complex web of viewpoints and relations among Palestinians, Israeli settlers, the Israeli army, and other Israeli citizens both within Israel and on the West Bank. Following the movie there will be a dialogue led by Guest Moderator Gerry Magnes who directs a statewide computer training project for the State Office of Children and Family Services.

Please join us for a showing of the film Encounter Point which follows a former Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian bereaved brother who risk their lives and public standing to promote a nonviolent end to the conflict. Their journeys lead them to the unlikeliest places to confront hatred within their communities. Following the movie there will be a moderated discussion.

We'll start with a presentation and discussion on the current
Israeli-Palestinian situation, and then we'll work on organizing the next
steps for our Chapter.
Ethan Bloch will speak. Ethan is a past chairman of our local chapter. Part of his schooling was in Israel, and he
and his family spend summers in Israel. All will be given the opportunity to ask
questions and air views.
We'll then move on to organizing. Our Combatants events in January generated a lot of interest. We want to capitalize on that. Also Brit Tzedek v' Shalom's new "Let's Talk" campaign gives us lots to do.
Dessert and coffee/tea will be served.

Capital District Brit Tzedek v'Shalom Attending Greenberg Lecture Series on the Middle East
Join the Capital District of Brit Tzedek v'Shalom as we attend the Greenberg Lecture Series on the Middle East, sponsored by Skidmore College. This Thursday we will be attending "Re-reading the Islamic Revolution: From February 11 (1979) to September 11 (2001)," a conversation with Hamid Dabashi and Hagop, located in Payne Room, Tang Museum at 8:00 PM.

On June 8, representatives from the New York and Albany chapters met with an aide in the office of Sen. Schumer. The meeting was a great success and hopefully will lay the foundation for future meetings. Jack Alexander, Albany chapter chair, also joined other Brit Tzedek activists in DC for the National Advocacy Days, meeting with the offices of Sen. Schumer and Clinton.
